The deep maroon of this vibrant painting reminds me of the silky-smooth bark of the beautiful Pacific Madrone tree. The pieces in this pair of paintings, Smooth as Madrone 1 & 2, are slightly different widths adding more interest, which are already full of spontaneous mark-making and layers of transparent pinks, coral and reds. They work well separately or hung together.
